Hairy Study

Hairy Study

“Hairy Study” captures a fleeting intimacy with one of the stray cats of Alp, a town in the Catalan Pyrenees. The artist renders the animal not as a portrait of likeness, but as an impression of presence—a felt weight of fur and gaze. Dense, broken brushwork builds a textured surface, suggesting both the density of the animal’s coat and a hazy, remembered encounter. Washes of ochre and cool blue play against deep umber, creating a shadowed depth that draws the eye to the piercing green of the cat’s eyes. There is a quiet observation at work here, a study of animal composure and the subtle currents of life lived on the periphery. The work evokes the stillness of a sun-drenched afternoon, the feeling of being watched, and the tender recognition of a wild creature accepting a moment of calm.
